AI Content Policy
AI Content Policy
The Journal of Drug Delivery and Biotherapeutics (JDDB) acknowledges the evolving role of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in research and writing. This policy ensures transparency, ethical use, and accountability when AI tools are utilized in the creation, analysis, or preparation of manuscripts.
- Scope of the Policy
This policy applies to:
- Authors who use AI tools for data analysis, writing, or content generation.
- Reviewers and editors evaluating submissions that may involve AI-assisted content.
- Acceptable Use of AI Tools
AI tools may be used for the following purposes:
- Language Assistance:
- Improving grammar, clarity, and readability of the manuscript.
- Translating non-English content into English (if applicable).
- Data Analysis:
- Conducting statistical or computational analyses, provided the methods and tools are clearly documented.
- Research Assistance:
- Literature searches or preliminary data exploration, with proper acknowledgment.
- Prohibited Use of AI Tools
- Content Generation:
- Authors must not use AI tools to generate substantial portions of the manuscript, including the introduction, discussion, conclusions, or abstract.
- Submitting content entirely or significantly generated by AI is strictly prohibited.
- Misrepresentation of Authorship:
- AI tools cannot be credited as authors. Authorship is reserved for individuals who meet the journal’s Authorship Policy criteria.
- Undisclosed Use:
- Failure to disclose the use of AI tools in the manuscript preparation or data analysis process is considered unethical.
- Transparency and Disclosure
Authors must disclose the use of AI tools in their manuscript under a separate "AI Tools Disclosure" section. The disclosure must include:
- The name and version of the AI tool used (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly, TensorFlow).
- The purpose for which the tool was used (e.g., language editing, statistical analysis).
- Any limitations or biases identified in the AI-generated results.
Example Statement:
“The authors used ChatGPT (OpenAI, version X.X) to improve language clarity in the manuscript. All intellectual content and interpretations were developed by the authors. The authors take full responsibility for the manuscript’s content.”
- Ethical Considerations
- Accuracy and Validation:
- Authors are responsible for verifying the accuracy of any output from AI tools, especially when used for data analysis or interpretation.
- Bias and Limitations:
- Authors must acknowledge and address potential biases or limitations inherent in the AI tools used.
- Plagiarism and Copyright:
- AI-generated content must not introduce plagiarism or infringe on copyrighted material.
- Authors are responsible for ensuring compliance with copyright laws.
- Responsibilities of Reviewers and Editors
- Identification of AI-Generated Content:
- Reviewers and editors should report suspected misuse of AI tools or undisclosed AI-generated content.
- The editorial office may use AI-detection tools to assess the originality of submissions.
- Evaluation of AI-Assisted Work:
- Manuscripts with disclosed AI use will be evaluated on the scientific merit and quality of the research, not the tool itself.
- Handling Violations:
- Undisclosed or unethical use of AI tools will be investigated and may result in manuscript rejection or retraction.
- Post-Publication Considerations
If concerns about AI-generated content arise after publication:
- The journal will investigate the matter following its Ethics and Publication Malpractice Policy.
- Proven cases of unethical AI use may lead to a correction, expression of concern, or retraction.
- Policy Updates
This policy will be reviewed and updated periodically to reflect advancements in AI technologies and their impact on scholarly publishing.
