Abstract

Tuberculosis remains a formidable public health issue, especially in developing countries. Lupus vulgaris, a form of cutaneous tuberculosis, presents a diagnostic conundrum owing to its slow progression and paucibacillary nature. It affects both immunocompromised and immunocompetent individuals, often in those with previous sensitization. In this article, we present a detailed analysis of three cases of lupus vulgaris encountered in clinical practice, highlighting the diverse clinical presentations and diagnostic challenges. Moreover, we conduct a comprehensive review of the current literature to elucidate the epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnostic modalities, and management strategies associated with lupus vulgaris. Through this exploration, we aim to enhance awareness and understanding of lupus vulgaris among healthcare professionals, facilitating early recognition and timely intervention. By shedding light on this less understood form of tuberculosis, we aspire to contribute to improved patient outcomes and the effective control of tuberculosis burden, particularly in regions with limited resources.
